Location

Located only in the beautiful village of Felsted (one of the 10 most picturesque villages in Essex). Larks is a 500 year old oak framed house located along a quiet country lane yet within 20 minutes to Chelmsford, 10 minutes to Braintree, and 25 minutes to Bishops Stortford with mainline stations to London Liverpool Street around 35 minutes. 15 minutes to Stansted Airport. So ideal for a countryside break only one hour away from London.

History

Felsted is a thriving village in the district of Uttlesford in Essex that has managed to retain its 16th-century charm. The rural village is known for its highly regarded public school, which dates back to 1564. Among its distinguished alumni are news broadcaster Kenneth Kendall, American planter William Byrd II who founded Richmond in Virginia, and 2 of Oliver Cromwell’s sons.

Leez Priory Wedding venue is less than 2 miles away which was voted as best UK wedding venue 2 years in a row. A picture-perfect settings of supreme beauty & splendour make your dream wedding a reality. Set in 40 Acres of Parkland.

A Rural Retreat

Little Larks is located next to Larks but totally private from Larks in a beautiful 2 acre fenced garden with a pond occupied by Ducks and Moorhens and a hard tennis court which you are welcome to use. One often sees the herd of Roe deer (some being Albino) who roam the valley we overlook.

Explore

The Flitch Way, a 15-mile country park trail, passes Felsted on land that used to be the Bishop’s Stortford to Braintree railway line. The trail takes its name from the Flitch trials in nearby Dunmow, during which couples compete to prove they have not argued for a year and are therefore worthy of the prize, a side of bacon. One of the best stretches for birds, butterflies and wildflowers links Felsted and Rayne. Felsted’s two pubs, the Swan Inn and the Chequers are ideal pitstops for refreshments for those walking the route. Also Felsted has 2 coffee shops (one chef was the head patisserie at the Lanesborough Hotel in London).
